Grow | Create New Planting or Propagation Batch

Propagation is the first part of the growing process. This is the initial propagation batch (also known as planting or plant group in Metrc).

Typically in a cultivation all plants will begin at this phase and then move through the growing lifecycle of Vegetation, Flowering, and eventually Harvest.

Plantings can be created from the cuttings of another plant (clones), a package of seeds, or a package of clones.

Typically for Metrc states, a batch/planting is considered to be plants created from the same strain and on the same date. Some states, such as CA, also limit this to a plant count such as 100 plants in CA.

Prerequisites

Prior to creating a new planting you will need to have:

  • Created Strains for the new planting within BLAZE
  • Created Pots that you will create your propagation batch in (such as clone tray) in BLAZE
  • Created a Zone for the area you will use (such as your Propagation Room)
  • Available Metrc Plant Tags (if in a state that requires a Plant tag in propagation)
  • Available Metrc Package Tags (if in CA and creating a planting from a planting)

Quick overview of Propagation Options

Create a new Planting from Mother Plants

1. A Planting can be added by either by clicking the green + Add Plants button in the upper right-hand corner or the small + next to the Propagation section.

 2. The new planting screen will appear. Fill out the following information, then click the green Save Plant button.

Source: Choose between Clone or Seed, depending upon what is started with.

  • Source: Clone
  • Strain : This is the strain that is used for the planting/batch.
  • Quantity: The Quantity of new plants you will create. Some states such as CA limit the number of plants per planting, if a quantity of greater than the limit is entered (such as 100 in CA), the system will notify you that the batch will be split into smaller batches to match the limit of the state.
  • Group: Optional, can be used across multiple plantings for common actions (+ = add group).
  • Pot: This is the pot/container that is used for the plants.
  • Birthdate: The date the planting was physically created. The current date is generated by default.
  • Cultivation Area : This is the cultivation area that the planting/batch is planted.
  • Zone : This is the zone that the planting/batch is planted.
  • Subzone : Optional, if you want to further define your zones into smaller areas such as tables.
  • Mother ID: Metrc Tag or System ID of the mother plant.
  • Metrc Tag: This will only appear in Metrc states that required a Plant tag for a propagation batch. Enter an available Metrc Plant tag.

3. Click Save Plant to create your Planting. This step may take a few moments as we are talking to Metrc and waiting for the responses.

4. After successful creation, you can retire the package tag used above and store with your other used tags according to regulation.

Create a Planting from a Propagation Batch (CA only)

In California, there is no concept of Vegetation in Metrc. As a result Metrc has created a unique workaround for cultivators to take cuttings from Veg plants since they are typically considered to be immature batches in Metrc. This requires a two step process. First we must take the cuttings from the plants and creating a Metrc package of these cuttings, next we then use that package to create a new planting. The package tag consumed in this process should be filed away with other used package tags.

1. From an existing Propagation or Vegetation Batch, choose Take Cuttings from the menu on the tile.

2. The new planting screen will appear. Some of the information will be pre-populated, fill out the following information, then click the green Save Plant button.

Source: Choose between Clone or Seed, depending upon what is started with.

  • Strain : Preselected, but you can change the strain if required such as changing to a new phenotype.
  • Birthdate: The date the cuttings were taken. The current date is generated by default.
  • Cultivation Area : This is the cultivation area that the planting/batch is planted.
  • Zone : This is the zone that the planting/batch is planted.
  • Subzone : Optional, if you want to further define your zones into smaller areas such as tables.
  • Mother ID: ID number of the mother plant.
  • Metrc Plant Tag: Enter an available Metrc Plant tag that will represent the new planting.
  • Metrc Package Tag: To perform this process a package tag is also required. The system will first create a package of the cuttings, then use that package to create the new planting.

3. Click Save Plant to create your Planting. This step may take a few moments as we are talking to Metrc and waiting for the responses.

4. After successful creation, you can retire the package tag used above and store with your other used tags according to regulation.

Create a Planting from a Package of Seeds or Clones

1. Navigate to Metrc-->Packages. Wait for the system to query Metrc for recent package updates. Depending on the last time you navigated to this view, this refresh could take a few minutes for Metrc data to download.

2. Click on the column header to sort data how you like and find the desired package.

3. Next to packages that are clones/plants or seeds you will see an import button.

4. Click the import button to begin the process. The Planting creation screen will appear. Fill out the Required fields listed below:

  • Source: Clone
  • Pot: This is the pot/container that is used for the plants.
  • Birthdate: The date the planting was physically created. The current date is generated by default.
  • Strain : This is the strain that is used for the planting/batch.
  • Quantity: The Quantity of new plants you will create. This quantity will be deducted from the package you chose. Some states such as CA limit the number of plants per planting, if a quantity of greater than the limit is entered (such as 100 in CA), the system will notify you that the batch will be split into smaller batches to match the limit of the state.
  • Cultivation Area : This is the cultivation area that the planting/batch is planted.
  • Zone : This is the zone that the planting/batch is planted.
  • Subzone : Optional, if you want to further define your zones into smaller areas such as tables.
  • Metrc Tag: This will only appear in Metrc states that required a Plant tag for a propagation batch. Enter an available Metrc Plant tag.

3. Click Save Plant to create your Planting. This step may take a few moments as we are talking to Metrc and waiting for the responses.
